The Masters, the bunny, and the cow

It was a long week, followed by a hectic weekend.  I know I haven't posted a blog post recently, which I have been feeling guilty about!

This past weekend, I spent a lot of time in front of the TV to be honest, went to some Easter festivities, and drank very delicious Spotted Cow.  The Masters golf tournament was on and I'm a huge fan of golf, and that tournament in particular.  Phil Mickelson (he's awesome, trust me) was in the lead at one point and it really looked like he was going to win.

That chance to win; however, went flying out the window in the form of a triple-bogey in his final round of the tournament.  I didn't overly care what happened in the tournament once it was clear he couldn't win, but I took the most out of this tournament than any other.

Mickelson had something he wanted so badly, that famed green jacket, so close he could probably smell the damn thing, only to have it slip through his fingers like the proverbial sand.  I think we can all relate to what the poor guy was feeling.  How many times have you been on the cusp of something you wanted only to lose it at the last moment?

I felt a pang similar when I thought my novel was finished.  I set it down for three months and when I came back--nope, it wasn't even close to being done.  I felt like I had failed and that it was essentially hopeless to give it another try because it was so far from being ready for publication.  Well, it's almost a year later and I just finished my last rewrite.  I don't know if I will think the same thing if I pick up the novel after a few months....will it be up to par, or will it still be lackluster in my eyes?  I have heard that a writing project is never really done, it's only due.  True words if I have ever heard them.

When Phil got done with his round he said, "...It was a fun back nine.  I had my chances, I just couldn't quite get it done."

Really?!  How can you be so calm and reflective about something that just got away from you?  It made me take a step back and think about how I'm handling my writing.  Why am I in such a rush to know if my novel has what it takes or not?

I think it has what it takes to be published, and more, so I'll keep plotting along.  I just have to keep Phil in mind, and how he handles losing.  Till I know for certain, I will just have fun and take it one shot at a time.

Check out the new poll question at the bottom of the page--I need your feedback!  I'll have a new post coming out this week (for sure!).  Till then, follow me on Twitter and Facebook for updates and my usual misadventures.

Cheers.
