Apple Gets it From The Justice Department

I'm sure you have heard the news by now....Apple just got the hammer dropped on them.  The US Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against Apple and Hachette publishing (others may be named by the time this is published).

The lawsuit may be expanded to include other publishers, but it looks as if the Justice Department is finally going to crack down on the Big Six (publishers) and Apple setting the price of e-books.

The article says that  they colluded to fix prices....but my question was why the government isn't going after Amazon.com.  Aren't they essentially the definition of a monopoly?....just saying.

This news comes out just as everyone in the industry (publishers, agents, writers, even readers) are questioning everyone they know on what they know about the future of publishing.  No one knows what is going to happen and it is a pretty uncertain time.

The lawsuit and the events that follow will certainly play a part in the role publishing will play in the future.  For myself and other writers hoping to get published in the near future, it is a bit unnerving.

What do you think the outcome will look like?!  Is the lawsuit warrant?  Comment or email with your thoughts!!

Cheers
